Name and type of business: GEMSTYLES COMPANY LIMITED. Products include Precious and semi precious Gemstones – Cut & Polish; Rough and Industrial Minerals, Based Metal – Gold, Copper and Galena. Other products include gemstone trees, gemstones in wood frames and gemstones in jewelers. The directors owned Mining plots for gemstones and gold.
The company was incorporated under Cap 212 of the Companies Ordinance vide Certificate of Incorporation No. 35869, issued by the Registrar of Companies on 4th day of March 1999. It started operations in 2003.

GEMSTYLES Company discovered that women are increasingly becoming involved in international trade; the leader creativity and sheer entrepreneurial drive are major contributors to the company’s success. The Directors realized that business women need to support each other in order to overcome gender-specific trade-related challenges.
It is through them that they had facilitated networking and market entry to other women in various Associations and in the market.
A brief description of the business: Gemstyles Company Limited is a local company, which has established gemstones mines, base metal pursuant to and in accordance with the mining act 1998 and its regulations of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The company carries out geological and geophysical exploration work, pilot plant tests and prospecting of minerals, cutting and polishing the colour gemstones for eventual trading. Production capacity reaches 1000 carats/month of precious and semi precious cut stones; 500 grams of rough torch pass gemstones and 1 tone Industrial minerals per month.
The Company is committed to undertake effective cutting and polishing of the colored gemstones operation to which it is in the process to acquire some relevant lapidary equipment and accessories. Another objective for the company is to promote the talents and skills of women and youth in mining areas.
GEMSTYLES Company is a member of Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA), Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) and (ENABLIS) Empowering Ideas Empowering People.
A brief summary of the obstacles overcome, discoveries made, and outcomes
The obstacles include un qualified personnel to cut the stones into standard quality; capital intensiveness of the business and informality nature of the business calendar. There is also a great need of communication between regional and international partners hence great demand for advice on negotiation skills for export trade.
The Company is doing a study for the marketing of mineral to assist women in mining in all parts of Tanzania who are facing difficulties to market their merchandise and have no ability to sell. The belief of Gemstyles Company is to alleviate poverty through mining sector.
Gemstyles Company under Tanzania Women Miners Association and Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce is mobilizing Small Scale Miners in Tanzania to adopt a system of Fair Trade in mining gold and gemstones, whoever will buy Gemstones or Jewellery should know socially and environmentally responsible is taking place.
